Based on a novel written by Annie Proulx and released under the same name, Barkskins is an American television drama that premiered on the National Geographic Channel on May 25, 2020. The story revolves around the period when the Britishers and French were keen on colonizing the world. It is about two woodcutters René Sel and Charles Duquet. 

Woodcutters were also known as Barkskins and hence the name. The first season of the show became popular amongst the section of the audience that was interested in world history. The series does a good job at shedding light on the various events during the precolonial and colonial periods with precision.

The series premiered on the National Geographic Channel on May 25, 2020, and was created by Elwood Reid. The series has had just one of its seasons released by now and fans are waiting for the release of Season 2.

Plot:

The story revolves around the precolonial and colonial period when the Britishers and French were keen on colonizing the world. It is about two woodcutters René Sel and Charles Duquet, who are the protagonists of the story. Woodcutters were also known as Barkskins and hence the name. The series has several scenes involving violence and bloodshed which explain the struggles that the characters go through.

The sitcom features a popular star cast which has added to the popularity of the show. Aneurin Barnard essayed the role of Hamish Goames who is one of the most important characters of the show. 

Christian Cooke essayed the role of Rene Sel. David Thewlis played the character of Claude Trepagny. David Wilmot was featured as Constable Bouchard. James Bloor essayed the role of Charles Duquet. 

Kaniehtiio Horn essayed the role of Mari.  Lily Sullivan was quite impressive in her portrayal of Delphine. Marcia Gay Harden featured in the role of Mathilde Geffard. Tallulah Haddon is featured as Melissande.  Thomas M. Wright played the character of Elisha Cooke. Zahn McClarnon essayed the role of Yvon. Matthew Lillard featured in the role of Gus Lafarge. 

Domenic Di Rosa played the character of Father Gabriel. Eric Schweig essayed the role of Chief Tehonikonhraken and left a mark.  Leni Parker was seen playing Mother Sabrine. The actors suited the roles they played and none of them seemed off tone from the character. The star cast of the series and its casting have been a major reason for its success. The makers have done a great job in curating the characters along with the actors.

When will season 2 be released?

Talking about the second season of the series, the makers of the show asserted that they have received a great response from the viewers and are working on the second season of the show. The statement does confirm that there will be a season two to the series. However, the release date for the second season has not been announced yet, since there has been a delay in the process due to the covid 19 pandemic. 

The makers also said that they are keenly working on the plot for season two and they wouldn’t disappoint their viewers in terms of the twists in the storyline. The climax episode of the first season left the audience with several questions. It was nothing less than a cliffhanger. The viewers cannot wait to know if Melissa will be able to escape and save Charles. Hamish was severely injured in the last season and we’re excited to see if he will be able to make it to the next season.
