Breaking Bad, a series everyone loved and praised. But there’s something that is the talk of the town and it isn’t Breaking Bad. Wonder what it is? “Better Call Saul!” Call it a “spin off” or a prequel of “Breaking Bad” but the series had been ‘breaking badly all records’. The series has been made in the time period of mid 2000s.and revolves around the life of Jimmy McGill, who has been a con man but life leads him to becoming a lawyer and quite a successful one. He goes on to become “Saul Goodman”, who precisely is a ‘greedy attorney’. The story further unfolds and officer Mike Ehrmantraut  becomes a supporter of a gang of drug peddlers to support his family and fulfil his responsibilities towards them.

Jonathan Banks played the character of Mike Ehrmantraut who is an ex police man and a member of the Philadelphia police. Rhea Seehorn played the character of a lawyer, whose name is  Kim Wexler.Patrick Fabian featured as Howard Hamlin who is a managing partner at ‘Hamling’.

The character of Nacho Varga has been played by Michael Mando. Michael McKean played the character of Chuck McGill and Giancarlo Esposito played the character of Gus Fring. Tony Dalton featured as Lalo Salamanca, who is the cousin of Tuco, Leonel, and Marco and also the nephew of Hector.

Story and Plot

The story revolves in the period of 2002 to 2008, in which James McGill, a con man for a living, strives hard to achieve his dream of becoming a successful lawyer. Events of his life unfold in such a way that he transforms into Saul Goodman, who is a criminal lawyer and a that too, a successful one. As a con man, James was known as ‘Slippin Jimmy’ in Chicago. But his brother Chuck McGill tries to influence him and gets him out of the con profession.He starts working in the mailroom at ‘Hamlin’.

Hamlin is a law firm that is managed by Chuck and Howard Hamlin. While working at the firm, Jimmy becomes good friends with Kim Wexler, who is also a lawyer by profession. The two eventually fall in love with each other. Jimmy’s brother inspires him to complete his studies and do something good in life. He bags an admission to the bar but loses a job at Hamlin. He starts fighting for justice and in his journey of doing so, he comes across a drug mafia that later turns out to unfold into the “Breaking Bad” narrative.

The first season has 10 episodes, the second season has 10 episodes, the third, fourth and the fifth season also have ten episodes each. The first season aired on February 8, 2015 and it’s first episode was named ‘Uno’. The second episode was named ‘Mijo’ and aired on February 9, 2015. The third episode was named ‘Nacho’ and aired on February 16, 2015. The fourth episode called “Hero” aired on February 23, 2015 and the fifth episode called “Alpine Shepherd Boy” aired on March 2, 2015.

The sixth episode was named “Five-O” and aired on March 9, 2015. The seventh episode called “Bingo” aired on March 16, 2015. The eighth episode called “RICO” aired on March 23, 2015 and the ninth episode aired on March 30, 2015 and was called “Pimento”. The tenth episode was named “Marco” and released on April 6, 2015.

Is it worth watching

The show is a must watch since it has something for everyone. After the release of its first season, ‘Rotten tomatoes’ stated, “Better Call Saul is a quirky, dark character study that manages to stand on its own without being overshadowed by the series that spawned it.” For its second season, they wrote, “Better Call Saul continues to tighten its hold on viewers with a batch of episodes that inject a surge of dramatic energy while showcasing the charms of its talented lead.” Similarly the third, fourth and fifth seasons have also been very well received by the audience as well as the critics.
