We love our pets and when called away from home on business or holiday, how they are cared for is of big concern. I cherish my cat as a companion, buddy, brat, and lazy pig. I want him to experience the least stress while the rest of the family is out of town.
Have you ever cried when dropping off a furry friend for a trip? I have. My heart jumped for joy when I found the right cat boarding hotel for us. Below are some questions I answered to determine his home away from home.
- Is there an onsite and licensed veterinarian associated with the cat hotel? Proper care is important even if my buddy does not need a doctor.
- Are the staff experienced and trained? How well do they work with animals? Who are the folks who will feed, medicate (if necessary), and play with you while you are away? Try to get a feel for their demeanour, and how other pets react to them, it is important.
- How are the facilities? Will his big self be jammed into a small wire cage or have his own enclosed suite? There are many levels, so always ask to see the room where they will be kept. Is there a play yard for fetch or some tug-of-war while out for their duty?
- Is there a playroom to let him stretch his legs or possibly socialize by hissing at another cat from across the room? Just kidding, but you know what I mean. Is this isolation or general housing?
- What are their hours of operation for drop-off and pick-up? I don’t want to pay an extra day because they close at 4:30 pm.
- What is their capacity? Is every cage packed, and staff maxed out? Will my cat be lost in the mix or receive attention?
Inquire your family, friends, or work peers about which doggie daycare they recommend and why. All animal boarding businesses must provide health and welfare for the animals in their care. No double boarding, no mixed boarding; security, climate, and nourishment requirements are all stipulated in the code.
Keep them safe and your mind at ease while you all enjoy a trip away from home and meet new friends.
