The Shakur’s are not a new name in the limelight- a family of activists, trendsetters, and brilliant minds, nearly everyone know about this iconic family. However, not everyone is familiar with Chinua Shakur- Mutulu Shakur’s son. Well known for his activism and unfortunate arrest, Jeral Wayne Williams (Mutulu) was a part of the Black Liberation Army. He was also married to Afeni Shakur.

Personal Life
Chinua Shakur is the son of Mutulu Shakur and step-son of Afeni Shakur. There’s no information about who Chinua’s mother was and if she was a part of his life. However, after Mutulu was arrested, Afeni Shakur never remarried. The Shakur family tree is a bit complicated and might be confusing. Hence, it’s best to start from the start.
Mutulu Shakur was born on the 8th of August, 1950 which makes him 72 years old as of 2022. He was born in Maryland but later moved to Queens with his mother. He was previously an acupuncturist before transitioning to activism in his late teens when he became a part of the Republic of New Afrika.
Similar to Chinua Shakur, there is no information about Mutulu’s educational background or beliefs. However, he was for the liberation of Black People.
Chinua Shakur’s Siblings
The Shakur clan is a big family which means Chinua Shakur has a lot of siblings, six to be precise. Chinua has both half and step-siblings- Tupac Shakur, Sekyiwa Shakur, Mopreme Shakur, Nzingha Shakur, Ayize Shakur, and Takerra Allen.
Sekyiwa Shakur is the only half-sibling Chinua has while all of the others are step-siblings. Because Chinua has been private for a long time, it’s difficult to know if he has a good relationship with his siblings. However, it’s easy to believe he does because all of the other Shakur siblings have an excellent relationship.
What Happened To Chinua Shakur’s Dad Mutulu?
Mutulu Shakur is not only popular for his activism and getting married to his older brother’s widow, Afeni Shakur. He is also known for being on the FBI most wanted list for six years.
In 1981, several members of the Black Liberation Army robbed a Brink’s armoured car of $1.6 million. During the operation, a Brink’s guard and two Nyack officers were killed with multiple people injured. Mutulu was on the run for six years before he was finally apprehended and charged to sixty years. Since then, he has moved several motions to reduce his sentence but it was denied.
It’s difficult to tell if Chinua Shakur was born before or during his incarceration. But what we can tell for sure is that be wasn’t married to Chinua’s mother. Mutulu was married to Makini Shakur in 1982 before they divorced in 2010. Prior to that, he was married to Afeni Shakur from 1975 to 1982.
