Back then, his sisters were far more talented than him when it comes to basketball. Both Kim and Debra became All-Americans at Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech. With the Lady Techsters team, Debra even won two national titles.

Dennis went to South Oaf Cliff High School, where he was a gym student of Gary Blair, who would become the coach of the Texas A&M Basketball team. Blair was also the coach of Dennis’s sisters. Unfortunately, he was not considered someone who would stand out. Also, he was only 5’6’’ when he was in high school, so he did not qualify for the football team as well. This left him feeling greatly devastated.

College

After graduating high school, he worked as a janitor at the Dallas Airport. At this time, he suddenly grew, from 5’6’’ to 5’11’’. Because of this, he decided to give basketball another try. He had a family friend who helped him get in the Cooke County College. There, he was doing well when it comes to basketball but did miserably in his academics. He then transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma University, where he was a three-time All-American at NAIA.

He joined a summer youth camp where he became friends with Byrne Rich. They became inseparable that he was even close to the Rich Family. Rodman considered them as his adopted family. However, in 2013, they were not in speaking terms due to unknown reasons.
