Born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963, John Christopher Depp II, or “Johnny Depp” is a famous American actor, musician, and producer.

Johnny Depp won the Best Actor in the Golden Globe Awards in 2007 after playing the lead role for “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Johnny was nominated nine times as Best Actor in the same category and three times in the Academy Awards for Best Actor. 

Johnny premiered in the film industry back in 1984 as part of the horror movie “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Because of his talent in acting, Johnny became a cast in the television series “21 Jump Street” from 1987 to 1990.

Since then, Johnny has starred in other independent films and became popular because of his eccentric roles. His early films include “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “Benny and Joon” in 1993, “Dead Man” in 1995, “Donnie Brasco” in 1997, and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” in 1998.

And in the year 2003, he became more famous after taking the leading role of the famous swashbuckler film series “Pirates of the Caribbean” as Captain Jack Sparrow. His offer to take other leading roles in famous films in the 2000s made him one of the most remarkable actors in the film industry. 

Johnny also founded his own production company, “Infinitum Nihil”, where he produced and co-starred in movies. Because of his love for music, he formed the rock band “Hollywood Vampire” starring rock legends Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. 

Early Life

Born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963, John Christopher II, or “Johnny Depp” was the youngest of the four children of John Christopher Depp and Betty Sue Wells.

They frequently transferred from one place to another during his childhood then finally settled in Miramar, Florida. At 15 years old, Johnny’s parents got divorced. His mother married again to Robert Palmer later after the divorce.

Music Career

When Johnny was still 12 years old, his mom gave him a guitar and started playing with other bands. His passion for music pushed him to drop high school at the age of 16 and pursued his dream of becoming a rockstar. 

In 1980, Johnny joined a band called “The Kids” in Florida. With its success, the band moved to Los Angeles and changed its name to “Six Gun Method” following a record deal. Johnny married their band bassist’s sister Lori Anne Allison in 1983. 

In 2015, Johnny formed the famous rock band “Hollywood Vampire” together with other rock icons: Alice Cooper, Tommy Henriksen, and Joe Perry. The band is known for its associated acts with other famous artists in the music industry like Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, and Marilyn Manson.

Film Industry

Johnny Depp met actor Nicolas Cage in the early 1980s after his ex-wife Lori Anne Allision introduced him.

Nicolas encouraged Johnny to work in the film industry. American actor James Dean also pushed Johnny to become an actor and in 1984, he debuted in the horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” He played the role of the boyfriend of the lead character in the film. 

A year after his first movie, Johnny became a cast of the comedy film Private Resort in 1985. His career to become a lead actor in the 1986 skating drama “Thrashin” was close at hand following its director’s recommendation.

However, the decision was changed after its producer stood against the proposal. In the same year, Johnny took part as a supporting actor in the film “Platoon”, a Vietnam war drama directed by Oliver Stone.

During the late 1980s, Johnny became part of the film series “21 Jump Street” after accepting the role of an undercover police officer. However, Johnny felt that something is still off despite the film’s success.

His collaboration with Tim Burton in the film “Edward Scissorhands” became a box office hit that earned a domestic gross of $53 million. His success in the film made him earn credits and various praises.

In 1983, Johnny appeared in the romantic comedy film “Benny and Joon.” The film did not receive that much appreciation at first but later on became a success. Johnny also starred in the film “Donnie Brasco” in 1997 with veteran actor Al Pacino. The movie was a big success and added to Johnny’s popularity. 

In 2003, Johnny was first seen in Disney’s adventure movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The film was a big hit and made Johnny established a figure because of his role as a pirate captain. He continued to play his role in the other Pirates of the Caribbean films until 2017, still bringing the title of Captain Jack Sparrow. Since then, Johnny has appeared in many movies and made a name in the film industry.
