Keke Wyatt was born Ke’tara Shavon Wyatt on 10 March 1982 to Lorna Wyatt, a vocalist, and Keever Wyatt, an organist, and vocalist. She was raised in a musical family rooted in gospel music but was exposed to contemporary R&B and secular music from a young age. She has four brothers and was raised in an African-American household and community setting. She grew up in Indianapolis and also spent time in Texas and Kentucky.

Wyatt started singing at age two and had her first live show by age five. She would perform in genres like gospel, pop, and opera. Her inspiration came from musical greats like Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, and Donny Hathaway. Wyatt also performed with various girl groups in her teenage years.
