Early Life
Mark Cuban was born on July 31, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to parents Shirley and Norton Cuban. His father was an automobile upholsterer while his mother, according to Mark, had different career goals and jobs every week. He has two brothers named Jeff Cuban and Brian Cuban. He belongs to a Jewish middle family and he mostly spent his childhood in Pittsburgh.
Cuban’s first experience in business was when he was 12. He was selling garbage bags so he can afford a pair of basketball shoes that were really expensive. Years later, he started so sell coins and stamps. When he turned 16, he was selling newspapers.
Instead of finishing his senior year, Cuban enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh where he as a full-time student and a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He transferred to Indiana University in Indiana the next year and finally completed his college in 1981 at the Kelley School of Business. While he was still in college, he had various business gigs, such as a chain letter, a bar, and disco lessons.
He moved back to Pennsylvania after graduating and work at Mellon Bank while immersing himself in the study of networking and machines.

In July 1982, Cuban moved to Dallas, TX, where he worked for a bar named Elan. Then, he became a salesperson for Your Business Software. Unfortunately, he lost his job in less than a year. He then established his own business called MicroSolutions, made possible by the support he got from his clients from his previous job. His company was so successful that its revenue grew to a staggering $30 million. In 1990, CompuServe bought MicroSolutions for $6 million.
In 1995, he, along with his partners Todd Wagner and Chris Jaeb, established Audionet, which was changed to Broadcast.com in 1998. A year after, their company had $13.5 million in revenue and a total of 330 employees. In 1999, Broadcast.com helped made the first live streaming of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show possible. In that same year, Yahoo bought Broadcast.com worth $5.7 billion in stock.
