The German murder mystery drama named Perfume is based on a novel of the same name that was written by Patrick Süskind. Before the series came into existence, a movie was already made on it, named “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” and was released in 2006. If you’re wondering about the story and the period it shows, there have been some alterations made to the story to make it suit the present times.

The series was originally made in German but after Netflix bought its streaming rights, they dubbed it into several languages to cater to the audience across the globe. The series has been produced by Oliver Berben, and Sarah Kirkegaard, and its cinematography has been done by Jakub Bejnarowicz. Bernd Schlegel is the editor of the series. The entire series has been shot on a Single-camera set-up and the companies involved in its production are Constantin Film and MOOVIE GmbH. 

The official distribution rights of the series have been acquired by Netflix who presented it before the world to a massive audience. In Germany, ZDFneo was the network on which the series was aired while for the other languages, it can be streamed on Netflix. Plot:

Perfume is a German TV series that was first premiered in 2018 and is based on the novel: Perfume by Patrick Süskind and a movie that was released in 2006 named Perfume: The Story of a Murderer that was directed by Tom Tykwer. 

The series saw its first release on the Netflix OTT platform on December 21, 2018. Being praised with some honorable reviews and articles, the story of the series is about a dead body of a woman that was found on the Lower Rhine whose red hair, armpit, and pubic hair were removed.

The case is investigated by Nadja Simon and Matthias Köhler and a prosecutor who goes by the name Grünberg who is currently having an affair with Nadja. The story continues as they investigate a group of five former boarding school students who know the victim from her early school days and were a part of an experiment that included human scents. 

The story becomes more breathtaking and engaging when another corpse of a boy who was missing for a lot of time is found and it also has the same mutilations as the woman. Another corpse of a prostitute is found disfigured in the same way. 

Meanwhile, Nadja comes to know that she is pregnant with Grünberg’s child and when she tells him about it he proposes the idea of abortion and after the conflict of interests becomes a lot bigger than it was supposed to be, Grünberg ends the relationship.

Friederike Becht essayed the role of Nadja Simon. Nadja Simon was the protagonist of the story and was loved by the audience. Wotan Wilke Möhring essayed the role of Prosecutor Grünberg, who was another important character of the story. Juergen Maurer essayed the role of Matthias Köhler.

 August Diehl essayed the role of Moritz de Vries and Ken Duken essayed the role of Roman Seliger. Natalia Belitski essayed the role of Elena Seliger and Christian Friedel essayed the role of Daniel “Zahnlos”. Trystan Pütter essayed the role of Thomas Butsche and Marc Hosemann essayed the role of Jens Brettschneider, Anja Schneider essayed the role of Elisabeth Grünberg and Oskar Belton essayed the role of Roman (young). Albrecht Felsmann essayed the role of Daniel (“Toothless”) Sluiter and Leon Blaschke essayed the role of Moritz (young). Julius Nitschkoff played the character of Thomas Butsche (young) and Carlotta von Falkenhayn played the character of Elsie. 

Susanne Wuest played the character of Lydia Suchanow who was a psychiatrist by profession and Karl Markovics played the character of Elena’s Father. Roxane Duran played the character of a Ballerina and Thomas Thieme played the role of Thomas Thieme. Siri Nase played the role of Katharina (“K”) Läufer.

It is being assumed that the pandemic could be one reason to have caused a postponement to the second season. However, the makers haven’t made any official statements.
