Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie Texas, to parents Ricardo Joel Gomez and Amanda Dawn Cornett. She was named after Selena Quintanilla, a Tejano singer who passed away in 1995. Fondly called as “Mandy,” Amanda gave birth to Selena when she was only sixteen years old. Their family struggled a lot when Selena was still young and her mother found it really difficult to make ends meet. Amanda worked hard for her family that is why she is close to her daughter.
