Tomb Raider grossed $274.7 million US dollars globally with a budget of $90-106 million. The film has an average rating of 5.5/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic, the film has an average rating of 48/100 which is a mixed or average review. Tomb Raider was nominated in the Teen Choice Awards in 2018 for Choice Action Movie and the leading actress, Alicia Vikander, was nominated for Choice Action Movie Actress.
The films of Tomb Raider are based on the 2013 action-adventure video game of the same name The 2018 Tomb Raider is a reboot and the third installment of the Tomb Raider film series. The first two movies were Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider-Cradle of Life in 2003 both starring Angelina Jolie. The film tells us the story of Lara Croft embarking on a risky and dangerous journey following the disappearance of her father in the hopes of solving it.

As for the movie cast of Tomb Raider 2, there’s still no official announcement of the list of cast. Tomb Raider movie cast were Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft; Dominic West who played as Lord Richard Croft that went missing; Walton Goggins who played as Mathias Vogel, the villain of the story and a member of the group Trinity; Daniel Wu who played as Lu Ren; Kristin Scott Thomas who played as Ana Miller; Derek Jacobi who played as Mr. Yaffe; Nick Frost who played as Alan, the owner of the pawnshop; Jaime Winstone who played as Pamele, the wife of Alan; and Hanna John-Kamen who played as Sophie, the friend of Lara Croft. The supporting actors of Tomb Raider were Antonio Aakeel who played as Lara Croft’s friend; Duncan Airlie James who played as Terry; Josef Altin who played as Bruce; Billy Pstlethwaite who played as Bill; Roger Nsengiyumva who played as Rog; and Michael Obiora who played as Baxter. Since the sequel is happening then we can safely assume for some original cast to return and new faces to see.
Alicia Vikander will reprise her role of Lara Croft, the highly intelligent and athletic main character of the movie who embarks on a perilous journey to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of her father, Lord Richard Croft. Lord Croft who was played by Dominic West died in the movie Tomb Raider because he sacrificed himself to save Lara. So we won’t be expecting him to return.
Kristin Scott Thomas who played as Ana Miller. Ana Miller is an associate at Richard Croft’s company, Croft Holdings, and she also manipulated Lara into accepting the inheritance. We can expect Kristine Scott Thomas to return for her role.
Daniel Wu who played as Lu Ren. Lu Ren is a ship captain who helped Lara Croft find her father and also helped her escape Yamatai.
Tomb Raider 2 Release date
The Tomb Raider sequel was set to be released on March 19, 2021. Like every other movie that was set to be released soon and was indefinitely delayed. Plans for the sequel had been put on hold which was confirmed by MGM studio. And, according to the director, Ben Wheatley, there’s nothing going on at the moment. The filming of the sequel was announced to start by early 2020 in english but because of Covid-19 global pandemic, the production was delayed until 2021 and the release date was moved to an unspecified date.
The sequel will be released theatrically in the United States by United Artists Releasing and will be internationally released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Things to know about Tomb Raider 2
As seen in the credit scene of Tomb Raider, we see Lara Croft at the pawn shop buying back the jade pendant that her father gave her, which she was forced to pawn. She also bought two identical pistols which were also the iconic twin guns from the video game.
About the sequel, if the movie follows the thread of Tomb Raider where after Lara Croft saved the world she soon discovered the group Trinity was directly tied to Croft Holdings and its front is a subsidiary of Croft Holdings, Patna. She then finds out that Ana Miller, who is the business partner of her father, is the head of Patna and Ana has been working with Vogel, the villain of the movie.
The sequel could also take the storyline of the video game sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. The first movie was heavily inspired from the 2013 reboot of the gaming franchise. In the games it tells the story of Lara Croft traveling to the lost city of Kitezh as she follows the research of her father about immortality and about Divine Source, a magical mcguffin that can grant immortality. Lara Croft then traveled to Siberia where the group Trinity have an evil research facility and she found out that Ana Miller is terminally ill and is in search of the Divine Source to heal herself.
Alicia Vikander has expressed her interest in reprising her role as Lara Croft prior to the release of the first film. Amy Jump was then hired to be the script writer of the sequel in April 2019. Amy Jump’s husband, Ben Wheatley, was then hired to be the director of the sequel in September 2019. Bentley is an English filmmaker and screenwriter. On January 25, 2021, Director Ben Wheatley and the scriptwriter Amy Jump were replaced by Misha Green. Misha Green is an American director, producer, and writer who is best known as the showrunner of the series Lovecraft Country on HBO. Tomb Raider 2 would be Misha Green’s feature directorial debut.
