Born on February 29, 1960, Anthony Jay Robbins, born Anthony J. Mahavoric or “Tony Robbins” is a known American philanthropist, coach, author, and speaker. His expertise in seminars, infomercials, and guiding books made him popular. His notable books were “Unlimited Power” in 1987 and “Awaken the Giant Within” in 1993. Robbins’ business management consultant center organizes all his seminars known as “Robbins Research International.”

Early Life

Tony Robbins’ birth name was Anthony J. Mahavoric, the eldest among three children. He was born on February 29, 1960, in North Hollywood, California. Robbins’ parents got divorced while he was still seven. His mother had many husbands until she met the former semi-professional baseball player Jim Robbins. When the young Anthony reached twelve, he was legally adopted by Jim and carried the family name Robbins.

Robbins was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor when he was in high school and grew about 10 inches on his growth spurt. Because of their abusive and chaotic household, Robbins decided to leave and never returned. He became a janitor to support his needs and was never able to attend college. 

Career

At the age of seventeen, the young Robbins already started to work for Jim Rohn, a famous author, and motivational speaker. Robbins is in charge of promoting Rohn’s seminars and gathering audiences. With his experience working with Rohn, Robbins learned to practice Ericksonian hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) in the 1980s. Robbins worked with John Grinder, a co-founder of NLP who used his knowledge during his seminars. Reportedly, Robbins mastered the art of firewalking and used it during his seminars. 

Robbins’ first self-help program “Personal Power” was produced by Guthy Renker in 1988. The infomercial caught the attention of many people and made Robbins popular. Going forward to 1997, Robbins hosted his first Leadership Academy seminar which lasted for more than two decades up to date. 

Robbins made ties with Washington Wizards co-owner Ted Leonsis and Golden State Warriors co-owner Peter Guber and later made business with eSports. The three bought “Team Liquid,” a professional gaming organization, and engaged in a tournament for Dota 2 in 2017. The team won “The International 7” with a prize of over $24 million.

Robbins also became the life coach of wealth manager Paul Tudor Jones who has been his client for more than 25 years since 1993. The two communicate every day through email and allocate 1-2 hours of one-on-one sessions quarterly. Jones reportedly pays a million dollars annually to Robbins. He referred to him as a therapist, trainer, and adviser. 

Actor Hugh Jackman also attended one of Robbins’ seminars, “Unleash the Power Within” and shared his experience.
